One day there is a frog, that wants to cross a stream but frogs can only swim in ponds, and the current of the stream is too strong the frog is scared that he will loose his direction in the foamy water and be swept away

the frog is startled by a scorpion from behind him the scorpion says "I see that you need to cross the stream, I too need to cross this stream but cannot swim" the frog tells the scorpion "I also cannot cross the stream, I cannot see above the foamy water and I will loose my way"

the scorpion ponders for a moment and then says, "I have a suggestion, you can swim the stream if I ride on your back that way I can see above the water while you swim carrying me"

"I will not carry you across the stream!" the frog says, "you will sting me and I will die!"

"but if I sting you, then you will sink and then I will die too. why would I want to do that?" counters the scorpion

the frog considers for awhile and then agrees to the scorpion's idea and lets him ride aboard his back they are halfway across the stream when the frog feels a terrible pain and a poison that burns in his veins

"why did you sting me, scorpion?" asks the frog, "now you will die too beneath the rushing waters!"

the scorpion ponders this for a moment and replies: "I cannot help myself, I am a scorpion"
