You probably guessed what this one was about...

Music companies are screwing people everyday.  No, not like that pervert!   They are putting out CDs with only 13 or so songs on them and many of them suck.   And the CDs are frickin' expensive!  $16!  Most of that goes into the companies pockets.  You could sell CDs much cheaper to produce them (manufacturing CDs is not real expensive), to pay the artists a nice amount (around 15 cents per CD sold, keep in mind they are also paid for touring), to cover recording costs (they have recording studios, to upkeep them and buy new stuff cannot have that much of an impact on the single CD price.) and to fatten their pockets.  Thing is, they don't need to fatten them that much!  And most of the songs are "fillers" just extra songs the band cranked out to reach the magic number of 13 (some CDs have only 12).   Most of these fillers suck, a lot of us only like a few popular songs.  Do you have any idea how many songs a CD can hold?  Most audio CDs can hold at least 20 songs!  They are ripping us off!  The only group I know that does not rip its fans off are the Beastie Boys, they put 22 rockin' songs on their last CD and most of them were rather long (IE 4 minutes is long, 3.5 minutes is a little above average).   But hark!  There is a light in this darkness...

The great MP3!  ah yes, never buy CDs again!  These files are high-quality, compact, and rather easy to find.  And people don't mind making new ones.  I myself make them, when I rarely get a CD, I pop it into the computer and use my MP3-extractor to make some files.  Then I may upload one or two on a nice Hotline server (I may talk about that program later, but I doubt it).  Things is, MP3s will always be around, because friendly hackers (as in the ones that don't like big companies that screw us so they find a way to copy games, movies and music from CDs.  Not the ones that make bad viruses that force us to buy or download an anti-virus checker) will always be around.

So enjoy your MP3s, and screw the company right back!  Well...your not really screwing the company much, they still have a lot of people buying CDs.  But if enough of us follow the light, they will be forced to lower CD prices.

If you don't have MP3s, and like the idea, start by getting the latest version of Winamp at www.winamp.com then searching for MP3s.

Or you can just screw searching and get Napster at www.Napster.com I used it and found the rare MP3 of "Teenage FBI" by "Guided by Voices".
