Read a book!

None of my friends read enough, its quite sad.  I can go through a 1000 page book in two or three days, and read about 35 or so books a year.   Thats not really a lot if you think about it.  That's only 3 books a month.   Usually I will read a lot of books at the end of summer and the first semester of school, then my reading slows down allot as I dedicate my time to other things.

Here is a list of my favorite authors, score out of ten, what they wrote, and a little description of the series.

R.A. Salvatore (9)

-Spearwielders Tails
The Woods Out Back
The Dragons Dagger
The Dragon Slayers return
-The Crimson Shadow
The Sword of Bedwyr
Luthiens Gamble
The Dragon King
-Demon Wars Saga:
The Demon Awakens
The Demon Spirit
The Demon Apostle

I would consider most of his books to be short stories, at around 400 pages each ;)   They are interesting stories, each containing a few in-depth, likable characters.   Each series is a new world, with different magic.  The magic is not as in depth as like other authors, but his series-es (what's the plural of series?) are usually three books each.  I like him because of his story-like abilities, and no one can describe a fight scene better then him.  At the urging of a few people, I raised his score to an "9" since it was well noted that I have not read his best series...yet.

Terry Goodkind  (10)

-Sword of Truth series
Wizards First Rule
Stone of Tears
Blood of the Fold
Temple of the Winds
Soul of the Fire

A fairly close second to Robert Jordan.  His world is not as creative, but it has less characters (thank goodness).  His description of magic in his world is also quite original.  The characters are lovable and have a real feeling to them.   The plots twist like a web and has many surprises and good humor, not to mention killer action.

Carl Sagan  (10)

Cosmos
The Demon Haunted world
Comet
Billions & Billions

This guy is the greatest science writer ever.  If you even slightly enjoy science, you should read his books.  And if you just want to know the scientific opinion about UFOs, superstition, and other such things, read: The Demon Haunted World.

Terry Brooks (7.5)

-Unnamed?
Running With the Demon
Knight of the Word
-Landover or somthing?
Magic Kingdom For Sale – Sold
The Black Unicorn
Wizard At Large
The Tangle Box
Witches’ Brew -
-Shannara series
First King of Shannara
The Sword of Shannara
The Elfstones of Shannara
The Wishsong of Shannara
-another Shannara series?
The Scions of Shannara
The Druid of Shannara
The Elf Queen of Shannara
The Talismans of Shannara

Ok, I have not read much of this author to judge him accuratley.  The few I did read had some interesing plot twists.  Few characters, but pretty cool ones.   Also has an easy style of writing, thats quick to read.

Raymond E. Fiest (7)

-Rift war series
Magician: apprentice
Magician: Master
Silverthorn

Ok, the books listed are the only ones I have read.  Neither had any amazing plot twists, and there are not many interesting characters.  If fact, the whole first book sucked ass.  The second one on the other hand was pretty good.  The only reason I will continue this series is because the world itself and different cultures is interesting.  That, and he describes a few bitchin' magic scenes.  I am reading the rest of the series now...but I lost my book (silverthorn)!

Ann Rice (6)

Violin
Pandora
Queen of the Damned

If you like vampires, and have not read a book of hers, what the hell is wrong with you?  Oh that, sorry to hear about it.  I have not read much of her work.   Lots of history in it, even if things moved rather slowly at times.  Im not a big vampire fan, so I did not give her a high rating.

Robert Dumas (9.5)

The Count of Monte Cristo

I only read one, but it was damn good.  A great classic.  Not all classics are good, and if you think that crapy-ass book "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a classic, you got another thing coming.

Brian Jacques (7.5)

Redwall
Mariel of Redwall
The Bellmaker
Mattemio
Salamandastron
The Outcast of Redwall
The Perils of Lutra
The Long Patrol
Marlfox

A writer of the dark ages, but instead of people, its all animals.  No, its not comedy.  He is quite good, great detail, poems, and plot.  Unfotunatley, the over all story line for each book is similar.  And he has way to many unimportant characters, its hard to remember the names.

David Farland: (6)

The Runelords
The Wolf Bretheran

I only read The Runelords, but it was not that great.  The story kind of dragged on, and his writing style was not very compelling.  The story line was interesting, and he definatley has something going with his inventive magic runes.

Robert Charles Wilson  (5)

Darwinia

Interesting.  But most of it just plain sucked.  Not much action for most of it, but it was satisfying over all.

Jane Jensen  (8)

Gabriel Knight: Voodoo Mystery
Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within
Gabriel Knight: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned

A great author.  Very cool books, even if they were based on a computer game.   Some great elements in the books.

J.R. Tolkien  (?)

The Hobbit

Aaaaaaarg!  I admit it!  Die hard fantasy fan and I never read one of this guys books!

Elizabeth A. Lynn  (4)

Dragons Winter

Two words: Suck and Ass.

James Marrow (8)

The Continent of Lies
The Wine of Violence

Creepy and creatice, somewhat disturbing, very good.  Its Sci-Fi, not fantasy though.  I really want to read more of his works...when I am done with every other fantasy book in the world.

Vivian Vande Velde (6)

Spellbound

This author just writes short stories (that depends on what you consider short).  No real big plot twists, nor a great style.  But it was an interesting read, and I am glad I read it.

Robert Jordan  (11)

-Wheel of Time series
The eye of the world
The great hunt
The Dragon Reborn
The Shadow Rising
The Fires of Heaven
Lord of Chaos
Crown of Swords
Path of Daggers
Winter's Heart

He is the absolute best!  Complete kick ass.  Perfect, almost.  He only has two problems: The series is 9 books long and might end up bring 15 books by the times its done, and second, he has waaaaay to many characters!  Over two-hundred.   But his details are great, story telling is the best ever by far, plots are amazing, characters (at least the 25 or so main characters) are in depth and very likable, his fantasy world is creative, and the way he describes magic is unique and imaginative.  Just read the damn series!  You won't regret it!  Check out the links section...
